copilotBC
The all-in-one software platform for driving instructors in BC.
copilotbc.ca ↗(The story)
Driving instructors in BC have to keep a careful record of every lesson. BC’s rules (Division 27 of the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations) set out what each student’s training record must hold and how long it has to be kept. copilotBC handles those records, plus bookings and payments, from the phone in the instructor’s hand.
In the car
- A check of the car before it moves.
- A lesson clock, and skill marks as they happen.
- Both signatures before the student unbuckles.
- No signal? Everything saves on the phone and uploads later.
The paperwork
Each signed lesson adds a line to the student’s training record, laid out to match Division 27. A signed lesson locks, and the server enforces the lock; corrections go underneath as dated notes. Everything an inspector might ask for prints as one PDF, and records are kept for the six years the rules require. (ICBC doesn’t approve software, so copilotBC is independent.)
The business
A calendar that syncs with Google, Apple and Outlook, a booking link, card payments through Stripe, lesson packages, and an earnings page with a mileage log for tax time. Students and parents get a free portal with their lessons, reports and a readiness score for the road test. Driving schools can run 2 to 25 instructors from one account.
How it’s built
Data stays in Google Cloud’s Toronto region, the server checks every read and write, and an audit trail records who did what. AI only answers questions in the help panel; it never reads students’ records.
